So I finished Debbie's Surly Cross Check last night and she picked it up this afternoon. It came together really nicely and has made a fairly light, very comfy, practical and pretty bike. The Tektro RX-5 mini V-brakes have worked really well as I had hoped, noticably more powerful than the cantilevers on my Cross Check, the only problem is they are very difficult to unclip to remove the wheels, not quite enough clearance / cable slack, especially with the shimmed 105 levers which have a very short pull now, great for small hands though.
Despite having a relatively long top tube and high bottom bracket, the frame geometry has worked out just right with a short stem and short reach bars. The smaller frames, this is a 46cm, have a sloping top tube which helps too. I had real fun building it and Debbie is very happy with her new bike, all ready for her Spring commute!
